Flamingos by the thousands and even millions inhabit the alkaline lakes of the Rift Valley. They thrive on the algae that only grows in these lakes. Ecosystems in these lakes is distinct from that in freshwater lakes where one will find a greater variety of birds, along with hippos and crocodiles.
